Anthropic, the US-based AI startup, has cemented its Asia-Pacific ambitions with the opening of a Tokyo office—its first in the region. The MOVE aligns with Japan's rigorous AI regulatory framework, underscored by a partnership with the Japan AI Safety Institute to advance responsible AI deployment.

CEO Dario Amodei engaged directly with Prime Minister Takaichi during the launch, signaling governmental endorsement. Local integrations are already underway, with Rakuten, Nomura Research Institute and Panasonic piloting Claude AI for financial analytics and customer experience enhancements. AWS Tokyo's infrastructure currently serves as the operational backbone.

The expansion forms part of a broader regional strategy, with Seoul and Bengaluru reportedly next in Anthropic's crosshairs. This calculated growth mirrors the increasing institutional adoption of AI technologies across Asian markets.
